Poetry

Definition: a collection of poems; poems in general


Example: I buried my father in my heart.Now he grows in me, my strange son,My little root who won’t drink milk,Little pale foot sunk in unheard-of night,Little clock spring newly wet In the fire,little grape, parent to the future Wine,a son the fruit of his own son,Little father I ransom with my life.



Significance: When you read the poems, 
you can feel the emotions and feelings, too. 

Lines

Definition: Lines are the sentence in the poem


Exampleif u go on the empire state building 
and drop a object in would drop to the ground 
in a straight line all the way down.


Significance: Depends on the poem, 
there are different lines to make people attach. 


Rhyme

Definition: a word that has the same sound or 
           ends with the same sound as another word


Examplebrain and gain. 
pledge and ledge. 
flower and power. 
mass and pass and glass and grass. 
game and lame. 
fame and shame. 
smirk and jerk. 
book and took. 

Significance: You can know the poem easier 
                          when you learn the rhyme



Onomatopoeia

Definition: the fact of words containing sounds similar to the noises


Example: What about the joke:
Knock-knock Who's there?
Boo
Boo who?
Don't cry, I was only joking


Significance: Onomatopoeia can know
                      the situations in the poem

Rhythm

Definition: Rhythm is a strong regular repeated pattern of sounds or movements


ExampleI hear the sound I love, the soung of the hyman voice, 
I hear all sounds running together, combined, fused, or following, 
Sounds of the city and sounds out of the city, sounds of the day and night,
Talkative young ones to those that like them, the loud laugh of work-people at their meals...

Significance: Rhythm can know the beat or tempo.

Extended metaphor

Definition: Extended metaphor is a metaphor 
that continues into the sentences that follow. 


Example: He is the pointing gun, we are the bullets of his desire.
All the world's a stage and men and women merely players.
Let me count my loves of thee, my rose garden, 
my heart, my fixed mark, my beginning and my end.


Significance: Extended metaphor can be useful 
when you want to recognize others feelings. 

Assonance

Definition: the effect created when two syllables in words 
that are close together have the same vowel sound, 
but  different consonants, or the same consonants but different vowels, 
for example, sonnet and porridge or cold and killed


Example“Poetry is old, ancient, goes back far. 
It is among the oldest of living things. 
So old it is that no man knows how and 
why the first poems came.”


Significant: Assonance is used to reinforce the meanings of words or to set the mood.
